Canadian Grocer Thought Leadership Conference Recap

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending the Canadian Grocer Thought Leadership CEO Conference, which is a key event in the Canadian grocery industry. The event brings together leaders from Canada’s food industry to discuss new and innovative approaches that will shape the future of the industry.

A session that stood out from the day’s schedule was entitled “Spoiler Alert: Your Customers are Cheating on You,” featuring Carman Allison from Nielsen. Unsurprisingly, the session focused on consumer disloyalty, much of which is driven by the tendency to shop based on price to spend less money or "loyal to being disloyal." In fact, 70% of customers try to spend less, and are focused on value when they shop.

#ActiveCares - Volunteering at Daily Bread Food Bank

On Tuesday, November 20th, a group of Active Canada employees from all departments and levels of the organization spent the morning volunteering at the Daily Bread Food Bank warehouse in Toronto. 

The team toured the facilities, were educated on the poverty and hunger in their own neighbourhoods, and packed potatoes. Together, they sorted and packed 2,600 pounds of potatoes in less than 2.5 hours! 

Everyone who participated had a positive experience, and were delighted to have the opportunity to volunteer on behalf of Active. 


"Spending the day at Daily Bread was an incredible experience. Daily Bread makes a huge difference to food banks all across the GTA and people greatly rely on these facilities in order to get basic necessities. They were in desperate need of help in order not to waste any fresh fruits and vegetables due to a decrease in volunteers this week. I was glad Active was able to step up to the plate - especially when our help was so necessary. It was a very humbling experience." - Tamara Harnden, Media Assistant.

Marketing Evolution Conference Recap

Thought Leaders of Active: Ahmed Al-Waili's Panel at the MediaPost Data & Programmatic Summit

Recently, Ahmed Al-Waili, Active Canada's Director of Programmatic, traveled to Lake Tahoe, California, to participate in a panel discussion at the MediaPost Data & Programmatic Insider Summit

Attended by advertisers, agencies, and vendors, the conference was about all things programmatic, including common challenges faced in the space, solutions to those issues, and how people are leveraging the technology for their campaigns. 

With over 8 years of online marketing experience and 6 years in the programmatic space on both the buy and sell sides, Ahmed was a fitting choice to participate in the conference as a speaker. Ahmed joined several industry colleagues in a panel discussion entitled "Can Programmatic Build Brand?"
